Subject Name: tar
Subject Summary: Un-/Packing of TAR Archive Files
Subject Home: http://www.gnu.org/software/tar/
Subject Versions: * <= 1.15.1
Vulnerability Id: CVE-2006-0300, OSVDB:23371, BID:5834
Vulnerability Scope: global (not OpenPKG specific)
Attack Feasibility: run-time
Attack Vector: remote network
Attack Impact: denial of service
Description:
According to a bug report from Jim Meyering [0], a remote overflow
exists in the GNU Tape Archiver (Tar). GNU Tar fails to properly
handle PAX extended headers resulting in a buffer overflow. With a
specially crafted Tar format archive, an attacker can cause arbitrary
command execution when the victim lists the Tar contents or extracts
the archive.
